I’d like to recommend a few of our favorites to check out when you are feeling the itch to get away from monuments and traffic and chaos of Rome. Here is the first of a series of getting out and enjoying the countryside of Rome.

I’d like to recommend a few of our favorites to check out when you are feeling the itch to get away from monuments and traffic and chaos of Rome. Here is the first of a series of getting out and enjoying the countryside of Rome.
Il Casale sul fiume Treja
The agriturismo Il Casale sul fiume Treja is a real treat. It’s located north of Rome about 35 to 40 minutes from the city center. It is right next to the waterfalls of Monte Gelato in the regional park Valle del Treja.
Il Casale sul fiume Treja is open every weekend for lunch and every day during the summer time.
It offers activities for all ages. Pony rides, games, super slides and little wooden houses to keep your little ones exploring the great outdoors and enjoying every moment. Volleyball, trails and organized games and sports for the older kids and nobody can resist a tractor ride, right? As if it couldn’t get any better, Treja Adventure Park is right next door! That is an entire post all on its own.
Il Casale sul Fiume Treja offers a variety of dining options to suit your needs. A fixed menu at their restaurant, a picnic basket lunch or a table and barbecue to cook food you bring from home.
Restaurant-We reserved a table for lunch at the restaurant. We were a large group on a nice day so we made sure to have reservations. They offer a fixed menu with traditional products including fresh homemade pasta and dessert. The cost is reasonable and the food is delicious and abundant. The restaurant option also includes the entrance fee and parking.
Area Picnic- if you plan to bring and cook your own food this is the option for you. You are given a table and a barbecue to enjoy your personal cooking but required payment of the entrance fee for all guest. During busy season you can reserve a BBQ and table in advance for a fee.
Picnic Lunch- For those who want more time and freedom to enjoy the grounds and don’t feel like cooking this option is for you. Prepared meals consisting of a first course, a sandwich with your choice of grilled meat, chicken or meatballs, water and coffee. They also have an a la carte menu where you can purchase the various selections from the picnic lunch
The entrance fee covers the use of the various services at the agriturismo: parking, play area for the children, picnic tables with barbecues. For those with infants and toddlers they also have a changing table and an area for warming bottles and baby food.
