The Facts on US Voter Registration Abroad

Absentee ballot- citizens abroad

Did you miss voting in your state primaries because you weren’t sure how to register or thought it was too late? Are you moving abroad this summer and worried you won’t be able to vote in the Presidential election this fall? Don’t worry! Here is all the information you need to make sure your vote counts.

I learned just recently how FAST and EASY it is now to register to vote for US elections. It takes a few moments and you may be able to vote by email or by fax, depending on your state.  It is recommended to overseas citizens to get in the habit of filling out the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) form every January so you are eligible to vote in all state and federal elections. Go to the Federal Voting Assistance Programs website by clicking here to print and fill out the form.

I filled out the form at the beginning of May and my ballot for the District of Columbia primaries arrived by mail at the end of May!

If you are having trouble or have questions, contact the local voting assistance officers at USCitizensRome@state.gov

I was advised if I do not receive my ballot for the presidential elections a month before the election day to contact the local voting assistance officer to receive a blank ballot.

Happy Voting!
